How to earn more on Airbnb during the 2026 World Cup: 7 key strategies
The 2026 World Cup, hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, is the first with 48 teams, and Miami is one of its host cities. That means thousands of international visitors, press, sponsors, whole families and fans willing to pay for a good location and a good experience. Oliver Covas, a coach at La Academia de Host, explains seven strategies to make the most of it. The last one is the winning goal.
1. Smart pricing, set early
Many hosts wait for demand to rise or to see what others do. Business owners get ahead of it.
- Check the official match schedule now.
- Raise prices gradually. Depending on your location, the increase could be 30%, 50% or more.
- Don't copy prices without analysis: study which matches draw the most interest in your city and whether you're near the stadium or tourist areas.
Once demand spikes, it's too late to react. A big event isn't the time to experiment; it's the time to execute precisely.
2. Open your calendar
Many hosts block dates without realizing it and lose thousands of dollars. Make sure you have no automatic blocks and that your calendar accepts bookings months in advance: many international travelers plan their trips well ahead. Sometimes the problem isn't a lack of demand, it's a lack of preparation.
3. Adjust your cancellation policy
When demand is high, think like a business owner. Limited or firm policies protect you from last-minute cancellations, which during an event like this can cost you thousands. One caveat: only do this when demand is truly high. If you misread your market, a strict policy can cost you bookings.
4. Raise your minimum nights
If you normally accept two-night stays, raise the minimum to four or five during the event. The result: less turnover, fewer cleanings, less wear and more income per booking.
| Strategy | Nights | Nightly rate | Income per booking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal minimum | 2 | $400 | $800 |
| Event minimum | 4 | $450 | $1,800 |
Same property, different strategy.
5. The amenities fans want
You're not just competing with other Airbnbs: you're competing on emotion. People come to live the moment.
- A big TV with good picture quality
- High-speed Wi-Fi
- A comfortable space to watch games as a group
- Self check-in
- Special touches that add to the experience
When guests feel your space makes their experience better, they don't compare prices: they book.
6. A business mindset
A big event is a high-liquidity economic cycle. It's like a wave: it doesn't stop, you ride it. Smart investors analyze, strategic owners adjust and bold entrepreneurs act. And they all prepare before the event, not during it.
7. The goal: the $750 bonus for new hosts
If you have a property sitting empty or you're nervous about starting, this is your push. For the 2026 World Cup, Airbnb launched its biggest incentive program for new hosts of entire homes in the 16 host cities across the US, Mexico and Canada:
- List the entire home before July 31, 2026.
- Complete at least one stay before that date.
- Get $750 on top of what you earn from bookings.
Summary
- Staged pricing based on the match schedule
- An open calendar months ahead
- A stricter cancellation policy only when demand is high
- Higher minimum nights
- A big TV, good Wi-Fi and self check-in
- Prepare before, not during
- Take advantage of platform incentives
